I am a recovering academic who recently finished a Ph.D. in linguistics, moved back to Seattle and took a 5-month trip around the world (not entirely in that order). Long, long ago, as an undergraduate at the University of Washington, I majored in chemistry because I like science and in German because I like languages. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that linguistics combined these two interests until I was almost ready to graduate. After a brief stint in a corporate library, I entered the graduate program at Cornell, where I focused on phonetics and phonology, particularly with respect to Khoesan languages. The goal of this web site is to provide access to my academic work and to information about the Khoesan languages I worked on, including some audio recordings I made during my field trips in Southern Africa. Ultimately, I hope to build this site into an online resource for information on Khoesan languages and linguistics. So stay tuned!
